In 1999, Birgit moved back into the James Bay house she grew up in, and began to create a garden. This process inspired her to build unique concrete sculptural works to accent her garden. In 2002, her private passion for garden design and sculpting took on a broader, more public overtone, when Victorian Garden Tours began bringing garden aficionados from around the world to visit her garden.

With this new audience, came multimedia exposure. Birgit’s work has been featured in the Sunset Western Landscaping Book, the magazines Canadian Gardening and Fine Gardening, as well as on TV episodes of Get Up and Grow and the Australian program Garden Gurus. In 2005, Birgit’s garden was voted Best Urban Garden by Canadian Gardening magazine. In February 2008, the Gemini award-winning program, Recreating Eden, aired an episode devoted to her life story, garden design and sculptural work.

In addition to her garden being toured by hundreds of people each year, Birgit’s sculpture is now recognized internationally, with both garden and interior pieces being held in private collections in Canada, the USA, Mexico , Germany and Australia.

Birgit is being featured as Artist of the Month for June 2008 at internationally renowned Sooke Harbour House.
